A little MOJO for today.

Short reflections on gratitude, purpose, growth, and the way we lead. Pick one that speaks to you, then take one small action.

Make room for joy.

When the day fills up with obligations, the things that give us energy can quietly disappear from the calendar. A joy list is a simple way to notice what you’ve been missing. Write down what leaves you feeling more alive—time with friends, a walk, golf, reading, creating something—and look for one place it can fit into an ordinary week.

The original idea came from Dr. Greg Nielsen: pay attention to where your energy goes. You may not be able to change every demand on your time, but you can choose to make space for something that restores you.

Today’s MOJO: Put one thing from your joy list on the calendar.

Purpose · January 6, 2021

Give purpose a place in your day.

Purpose can sound like one enormous answer you’re supposed to discover. Sometimes it begins with two smaller questions: What do you love? What are you good at? Where those answers overlap, there may be work, service, or a way of spending time that feels meaningful to you.

You don’t have to wait for a dramatic career change. Notice a chance to use one of your strengths in something you care about today—at home, at work, or for another person. Then do a little more of it.

Today’s MOJO: Name one strength, one thing you love, and one way to bring them together this week.

Turn a vision into a next step.

A vision board can help you see what you want to move toward. The important part comes after you’ve made it: choosing what you’ll do. A goal that stays in your head is easy to postpone; a visible reminder can prompt you to make a plan and keep returning to it.

Whether you use photos, words, or a page of notes, make it yours. Then pick one goal and write down the first step you can take this week. Progress grows when a hopeful picture meets a real action.

Today’s MOJO: Choose one goal and schedule its first small step.

Leadership · April 20, 2020

Choose we over me.

In a reflection on Phil Jackson and Michael Jordan, I wrote about the shift from individual brilliance to shared success. A strong team needs people who know their role, trust one another, and care about what happens beyond their own contribution.

That lesson travels well beyond basketball. A leader can make space for someone else’s idea, give credit where it belongs, or help a teammate succeed without needing the spotlight. Those choices build the kind of team people want to be part of.

Today’s MOJO: Help someone else win—and make sure they get the credit.
